In Queensland, we have the following rules in place that you should familiarise yourself with before having any tinting film applied to your car. The darkness – or rather transparency of your window film – is measured in VLT (visible light transmission). Windshield

Only the uppermost 10% of your windshield may have window tint applied to it with a VLT of 35% or over.

Front Side Windows

Your driver and front-seat passenger windows must have a VLT of 35% or over.

Rear Side Windows

The side windows at the rear must have a VLT of at least 20%.

Rear Window

Your vehicle’s rear window also must have a VLT of 20% or over.

Other Important QLD Laws To Consider When Looking for the Darkest Legal Window Tint

• Reflective or mirror-like tinted film is not permitted above 10% reflectance level.
• Bubbled, damaged, discoloured or otherwise deteriorated film which impacts the driver’s vision is not allowed.
• If any side windows or the rear window are tinted, your vehicle must have dual exterior rearview mirrors.
• Factory-made glass on windshields may have up to 75% VLT or 70% for vehicles built before 1971.
• Tint on vehicle’s interior windows must have over 70% VLT when factory-made, and no less than 35% with aftermarket tint.
